The Sacred Heart University Pioneer Marching Band from Fairfield, CT, is one of the most visible organizations on the Sacred Heart campus, performing for thousands of people each year through both live and televised appearances. Known as “The Heart of Connecticut” the Pioneer Marching Band is proud to represent southwest CT through local performances, and appearances at events throughout the northeast, and beyond. The Pioneer Marching Band has appeared in such parades as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NY City and Boston; Columbus Day Parade in New York City, and Bridgeport, CT; Thanksgiving Parade in Stamford, CT, and the Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village, NY. The band has been featured in national television ad campaigns for Verizon Wireless, and Publisher’s Clearing House, and they have also appeared on MTV. The band is a frequent guest performer at regional high school marching band events, including appearances at the championship performances for USSBA, Musical Arts Conference (MAC), and Tournament of Bands (TOB) in Hershey, PA. The Sacred Heart University band has traveled extensively for performances in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New York. Highlights of the 2011-2012 year include the band’s New England tour in October, and the band’s first international performance tour to Ireland in January 2012. SHU is also home to an award-winning competitive Winterguard Terpsichore. The winterguard competes both regionally and nationally, winning the 2003 WGI National Championships in Dayton, OH, and the 2010 and 2011 MAC Winterguard Championships in Trumbull, CT. Located in Fairfield, CT, Sacred Heart University offers a strong Liberal Arts education with over 50 academic undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level programs. Tonight - Sacred Heart University Pioneer Marching Band Presents “Pursuit” Featuring the music of David Holsinger, Eric Schmidt, and Samuel Hazo. The band’s soloists include: Trumpeter Mike Nigro, a sophomore Exercise Science major from Shrub Oak, NY Trumpeter Dan Rios, a freshman political science major from Albany, NY And Saxophonist Nicky Rea, a junior Biology major from Stafford CT The Sacred Heart University Pioneer Marching Band numbers 75 members, and is under the field direction of Drum Major Brian Beatty, a senior biology major from West Yarmouth, MA.
